Travel to Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Early in January 2024 was my first winter skiing at Jackson Hole, WY. It was super cold, but thankfully I was prepared with the right gear. If your travel includes driving over Teton Pass, please use extreme care. Now, I can’t wait to go back again in 2025, Yeehaw!
If you prefer a road trip, you can drive like me. Jackson Hole is located in a remote area of Wyoming, so driving is a great way to get there. The town is situated at the southern end of the scenic Teton Pass, accessible via US Highway 89 or US Highway 26/89/191, depending on your starting point.
Amtrak does not offer service to Jackson Hole directly, but you can take a train to Salt Lake City and then transfer to a bus or shuttle or rent a car to get to Jackson Hole.
Here’s an interesting fact: The Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) is the only commercial airport in the United States located within a National Park (i.e., Grand Teton). There are direct flights to JAC from 13 major US cities, including Denver, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Minneapolis, and Seattle. Alaska Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Airlines and American Airlines all offer flights.
There are several private shuttle companies that offer service to Jackson Hole from major cities in the western United States. One is Cody Shuttle. This is a convenient option if you are traveling with a group or if you want to avoid the hassle of driving.
The best way to travel to Jackson Hole will depend on your budget and preferences. If you want the most convenient option, flying is the way to go. However, if you are on a budget, driving a car, and bus or train travel can be great options. And if you want to experience the beauty of Wyoming along the way, driving is a great choice.

Luckily, I stayed in a private slopeside room at The Hostel Jackson Hole. It was great being there in the morning without having to drive in. It’s a short walk up a nice paver path from your room to get to the ski lifts, but you can ski on the way back, Yeehaw!
